Here at The University of Oklahoma I am studying psychology/pre-medicine with a minor in chemistry. I believe the cool thing about psychology is that it is applicable to everyday life. When we hangout with our friends and family and when we meet someone new, psychology is something we see and use everyday. The best class I took last semester was the freshmen level class called Experiencing Music! It was such a fun and upbeat class that was a breather from all my hard science classes. I actually made some wonderful friends in that class and we still talk and hangout this semester! My biggest accomplishment last semester was getting all A's! I never made a grade below an A from elementary through high school, and college initially came as a shock to me; however, as I continue and grow in my college experience, I have finally been able to pull off all A's so that is really exciting for me. Over break, my family and I went to St. Louis, Missouri, and had a big reunion with our close family and friends!
When it comes to favorite books, movies, and TV shows, I have got to say that I love romantic comedies! Some of my favorite books include The Fault in Our Stars and Wuthering Heights. Some of my favorite movies and TV shows include Friends, Gossip Girl, How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, and 10 Things I Hate About You. All extremely girly movies, I know, but they are just so dang good!! :)
The future is honestly kind of scary! Sometimes I forget I am a junior in college and that the real world is fast approaching. As a little girl, I remember looking up to my "big sisters/role models" who were in college and thinking that that was so far away, and next thing I knew I am them now. It is crazy how fast time goes by! As the real world approaches, my plan is to attend medical school (knock on wood) to hopefully one day become a pediatrician! I have always wanted to become a doctor and I love babies and children, and something about being trusted as a physician to take care of a family's bundle of joy just means the world to me. Therefore, cheers to about seven to eight years more years of school! :-) You can find me studying pretty much 24/7 at the Great Reading Room at the Biz!
I hope you all enjoy getting to know me and I cannot wait to get to know everyone as well! Here is to a wonderful semester! :)

Nikole, nice to meet you! I totally know what you mean about the future being scary. I am a senior this year and I am graduating in May so that has been on my mind a lot lately. I also love the Great Reading Room. The silence is so nice when studying! I cannot get anything done on LL1 of the library because of the noise.
ReplyDeleteThat story about a cow in your backyard is so funny, Nikole! And it also sounds like the beginning of a story you could tell for this class... what if that cow was not just any cow, but the amazing wish-granting cow Kamadhenu for example...? :-)

And just who knows what kinds of supernatural beings you could meet in Bizzell: Hanuman, the immortal monkey-god of the Ramayana, supposedly still lives in the world with us today... and since he is a scholar, I am sure he would enjoy spending time in Bizzell! You'll be meeting Hanuman in the Ramayana next week! :-)

Hi Nikole! Wow, you have had to adjust to such drastic transitions from one place to the next. You sound like you are a really happy, outgoing, and social person. I admire that you are so talented and well-rounded in multiple areas. That’s hilarious that you found a cow in your backyard! It is pretty scary to think that time has passed by so quickly. I wish you lots of luck into getting into medical school!
ReplyDeleteHi Nikole! Carlo told me that you were also in this class so I found you on the class directory! Anyways, I am excited to see what your thoughts are on the subjects in class this semester and am excited to see what you do for your final project! I also like that you like Wuthering Heights! That book is my favorite gothic novel. Anyways, check out my blog if you'd like! If not that is cool too!!
ReplyDeleteHey Nikole! I love the way your name is spelled, I have never seen it that way before. It was interesting hearing a little bit of your life's story. I really thought it was funny when you said coming to a semi-rural city of Ada because I'm from Oklahoma and always thought of Ada as going to the city haha. Anyways good luck on your upcoming MCAT I'm sure you are preparing for if you are in your junior year. I am a senior Pre-med student and know about all those joys. Hope you find some relief in this class.
ReplyDeleteHey Nikole,
ReplyDeleteI bet the change in weather from the Philippines to Michigan must have been unbearable. I went to Ohio State before I came to OU and the weather difference from Oklahoma to Ohio rocked my world haha. I can't imagine how bad it was for you. Both my mom and my sister are pediatricians and they say it is very rewarding work so I'm sure you will love it.
Nice to meet you Nikole,
ReplyDeleteI can definitely see how going from the Philippines to Michigan would be a huge change. Friends is one of my favorite shows ever, I just finished watching the whole series on Netflix and in my boredom I restarted it again in order to watch the whole thing again. Good luck on your MCAT.

ReplyDeleteWow! Moving from the Phillippines to the United States must have been hard enough, but going to Michigan is definitely a weather shock I'm sure! I am a psychology major as well and I love it so much! I was biology but I changed my major during my sophomore year and it was the greatest thing I did! Good luck with the MCAT and I wish you the best!
ReplyDeleteHi Nikole, nice to meet you! I can't even imagine what it was like to move so many times and to completely different cultures especially. Until coming to OU, I lived in my same house my entire life! My freshman year I took experiencing music and I agree it was definitely a nice break from my other fast-paced classes. Good luck this semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Nikole! I loved getting to read your introduction to learn all about you. I have lived in Oklahoma my entire life, so it was really cool hearing about your life transitions from city to city (not to mention country to country!). I am also hoping to go into the medical field! As of now, I am on the waitlist for PA school, and I'm eager to see where life takes me in that sense. Pediatrics is one of the specialties I am interested in as well! I volunteer weekly at The Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center, and if you're interested, it would definitely be something you would enjoy! Happy studying!
ReplyDeleteNikole, got to say the wolverine fandom is dissapointing, especially because of my B1G roots (On Wisconsin!). Make sure you take some time out of study for a little bit of enjoyment, I regret not taking that time for myself junior year, and it made my whole year miserable because I never had anything in front of my face but more and more homework. The work sees to guy by so much faster when you have a tennis match (insert your own favorite recreation) waiting for you after you submit the homework you are working on.
ReplyDeleteHello Nikole. Moving from the Philippines to Michigan must have been challenging. Your winter break to St. Louis sounds like a great time, I hope you enjoyed your reunion with family and friends. I also enjoy a good romantic comedy. Friends is a great TV show. Going to medical school is one heck of a challenge and I wish you the best.
ReplyDeleteWow, moving from the Philippines to Michigan and then to Ada, Oklahoma must have been a really crazy set of transitions! I don't think I've ever been to Michigan, but I've always wanted to visit. I feel you on the always studying 24/7! Good luck on becoming a pediatrician, that's a really awesome job to do, helping keep kids healthy and all!
ReplyDeleteHey Nikole!
ReplyDeleteGirl, I learned more about you from your blog than all the times we have meet at HSLC. You have definitely lived the life! I totally get the whole younger sibling thing, little ones always get the attention haha! You've got big plans and I definitely hope you succeed!
Hey Nikole! I can't imagine the differences in the three places haha! I think it is pretty cool though that you got to live in Ann Arbor being that it is such a historical place. I too like to play golf here in Oklahoma although I must admit I'm not very good! I wish you the best with getting into Medical school as I'm applying for Dental school and realize how hard of a goal this is. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteHi Nikole!!!
ReplyDeleteI loved reading your introduction. I would love to visit the Philippines someday, as I've heard it's heavenly. Have you been back since you moved here? Also, great job on accomplishing last semester with all A's!!! I know you will go on to do big things in medical school and in your future career as a physician. Best of luck with the semester. I look forward to reading more of your posts!
Hi Nikole,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely life. I love to read intros to people. You really get to know them. I am also a Psychology major and I'll be graduating this May so I feel you on the whole "what am I doing". I am sure you are a great big sister. I hope that you have another A filled semester.
Hello Nikole!
ReplyDeleteI know how it feels like moving from big town to small town. The first town I came in US was Poteau, Oklahoma not big town but then I move to even smaller town which I really hated. I could not even meet with my family for six month thats how far we were staying and as time pass now I am senior at OU. I really don't know what future holds for me yet. I hope you have a great semester.
Hi Nikola! Thank you for sharing your introduction with us. I am intrigued with how you moved from such a crazy city to a small town. I bet that was such a growing experience. I don't know what it's like to live in a small town for more than a week, so I appreciated hearing your perspective on that. I also relate on not knowing the future, I'm in the same boat with graduating in May. I hope your semester is going well and you are enjoying this class!
ReplyDeleteHey Nikole, I am also very close in age to my sister, 16 months younger. We always joke in my family that my parents did not realize children could be so close in age! I am also a psychology major and I totally agree on how the classes help you in life. I think I have become more aware of other people and the unseen illness that they might have and trying to be helpful and respectful when out. I work with children so it will definitely come in handy when you are a pediatrician. Good luck in your classes this semester and I am sure you will make it on to medical school!
ReplyDeleteYikes! I bet that was a huge adjustment from the tropics of the Philippines to the winters of Michigan. I’ve often considered moving up north a bit but that’s an area even I am nervous about. I’ve grown up here haha so we have some cold but nothing like that!
ReplyDeleteI agree about Psychology being such an applicable field of study. It can be so tempting to diagnose some people haha! Just kidding. ;)
I’ve never seen Wuthering Heights but I read it in high school. I remember thinking Heathcliff was awful but kind of hot.
Oh man I miss the great reading hall SO MUCH. Being a telecommuting student is nice but that’s the one drawback...not being close to the library.
Hey Nikole, it is so cool that you were born in the Philippines! I have always wanted to go there. I also have a younger sister. She can be a pain but i guess she is all right. I think it is so cool that Psychology is one of your passions. It is an important part of life I believe and we need people to know how the mind works. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWow Nikole! It sounds like you have had an adventurous life so far! I also did ballet and gymnastics when I was little, but I ended up sticking with dance classes longer. It must have been such a shock to the system, though, to move from somewhere like the Philippines to Michigan! I also study psychology so it is always nice to see another person sharing my major!
ReplyDeletePre-med and all A's? Dang girl, I'm super impressed! Congratulations on your success in college so far! Yo, 10 Thing I Hate About You is such an underrated movie, the fact you mentioned it made me so happy! I also loved dance as a kid and I am a dance teacher now! Pointe was definitely fun but my toes didn't appreciate it. I hope your semester is going well, it's the home stretch!
ReplyDeleteHey, Nikole, nice to meet you! When I was a kid we moved from Oklahoma to Michigan and lived there for five years so I can almost relate to adjusting to that temperature shift. I've been to Ann Arbor many times - but I can't bring myself to be a U of M fan, my team is in Lansing at Michigan State, go Spartans! Also, congrats on the all As semester you had, I've only managed to have a 4.0 semester once my entire college career so props to you. Good luck with the rest of the semester, the end is fast approaching.
ReplyDeletehey Nikole reading your post you had a different life from when you was first born until you moved to the states. I know that was probably a different change for you, but you seem like you enjoyed it overall. I would be annoyed to live in a place that is cold all the time, but moving to oklahoma is no different because the weather here is bipolar too lol. but good luck with the rest of your college career.
